In mid-May and the beginning of June, when rice and watermelons were ready to be harvested, the COVID-19 pandemic forced Yen Dung district (Bac Giang province) to implement social distancing in accordance with the 15th and 16th Directive of the Prime Minister. COVID-19 has directly affected the harvesting and consumption stages, putting farmers' well-being in danger.

To support local farmers to sell agricultural products and to avoid disruption of the supply chains of the farming industry, members of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union has led many creative initiatives. They have become the core teams of many long-haul group that help harvesting and distributing rice and watermelons from Trai Thuong village, Lang Son commune, Yen Dung district, Bac Giang province to consumers nationwide. 

The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union members do not only show up in Bac Giang, but also in Bac Ninh, Hai Duong,  Tien Giang and many other provinces to support local farmers.

From safe areas, members of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Viet Nam Confederation of Labor, and Viet Nam Women's Union voluntarily move towards dangerous areas-where already affected by COVID-19 pandemic, to support local people here.

Thousands of meals were prepared everyday to deliver to citizens in quarantined areas. People nationwide personally bought food to deliver to people in blocked areas. A 10-year-old kid in Ho Chi Minh City voluntarily came to Man Tu volunteer kitchen (District 1, HCMC) to cook more than 5,000 meals for officers and soldiers at COVID-19 Checking Points and people in the blockade area.

At the beach of Nhan Trach commune, Bo Trach district (Quang Binh), from early morning, as soon as the fisherman's boat landed, members of Quang Binh Tourism Club were present to select and purchase  tons of fresh fishes. Those fishes then would been cleaned, preliminarily processed, packaged, vacuumed, frozen and sent to Ho Chi Minh City to make sure people in HCMC would have sufficient amount of food.

Thousands of medical staffs, doctors and even last year medical students have moved to Da Nang, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Binh Duong, Phu Yen, Quang Ngai, Dong Thap and Ho Chi Minh City to support localities to fight the epidemic. Leaders of Bach Mai Hospital, Vietnam-Germany Hospital, K Hospital, Central Lung Hospital, E Hospital, Geriatric Hospital, Huu Nghi Hospital also moved to the South to fight with COVID-19 to protect their compatriots.

When the epidemic becomes more and more complicated, putting heavy pressure on the healthcare system, many retired doctors write volunteer applications and ask to go to the South to help their compatriots. Since the beginning of June, there have been 240 retired doctors of Vinh Phuc province voluntarily applied to participate in the fight against the epidemic. In Hanoi, since March, in Bac Tu Liem district, about 280 nurses and retired doctors have registered as well. Doctor Nguyen Van Trang, former Head of Pediatrics Department (General Hospital, Thanh Chuong District, Nghe An province), already nearly 80 years old, wrote a letter expressing his wish to volunteer at the epidemic center in Bac Giang at the end of May to take care of patients with COVID-19.

Besides the determination and efforts of the entire political system, every citizen across the country, with their will and heart, enthusiasm and responsibility to society and the community, are joining hands to help people in the "hot spots" of the epidemic. Many initiatives, good models, and creative ideas have been implemented on a voluntary basis.

Those beautiful actions not only warm up the hearts of people in the epidemic area but also demonstrate humanity and solidarity - a good tradition of Vietnamese people for generations.

With each good behavior, the power of volunteer spirit is multiplied. There have been many "volunteer colors": the volunteer blue shirt of the youth, the volunteer white shirt of the nurses and doctors; and especially the many colors of the people who are daily move towards the "epidemic center". Those are gorgeous colors. The color of sharing, the color of compassion, and the color of connection that making the bond of love to be extended. The whole nation for one more time fight together for a common goal: to help each other overcome difficulties and repel the pandemic.

 Currently, the COVID-19 epidemic still endangers Viet Nam, with around 8000 new cases recorded every day. Many provinces and cities have implemented social distancing in the spirit of the 16th Directive of the Prime Minister. The pandemic has affected all aspects of life. More than ever, every citizen needs to further raise their awareness of epidemic prevention and strictly follow the 5K regulations to be able to control the epidemic. This is also a "volunteer" action to relief the burden for the volunteer force.
