Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Members 'on duty' 24/24, ensuring the smooth circulation of goods and vehicles on the North - South Highway


Web.DTN August 4th 2021. 38 volunteer squads were established to support COVID-19 prevention activities from Da Nang city to Ca Mau province. Along with State Functional Forces, the volunteers worked 24 hours per day at COVID-19 Check Point, ensuring the circulation of goods  and vehicles on National Highway 1A.

From July 25th, the Secretariat of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee deployed 38 Volunteer Squads to support State Functional Forces to prevent and control COVID-19 epidemic in 19 provinces and cities from Da Nang to Can Tho. The Squads collaborate with Functional Forces at key traffic points along National Highway 1A to ensure smooth circulation. Besides, the volunteers are also responsible for distributing goods and necessities to local citizens in blocked areas.

On duty 24/24h to ensure smooth traffic

At the online meeting about COVID-19 prevention, Mr. Le Van Vinh, Deputy Secretary of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Quang Ngai province said that goods and vehicles flowed smoothly, thanks to the Volunteer Squads.

The Volunteer Squads also supports quarantine areas and people returning from Ho Chi Minh City. The Provincial HCYU also cooperates with transport units to support the consumption of agricultural products to generate income for farmers. Last week, the Volunteer Squads have promoted the consumption of 25 tons of Ly Son garlic.

In Can Tho, there are 2 Check Points. One of them are the Check Point at National Highway 1 (the road leading to Can Tho bridge, Cai Rang district). This Check Point has an average daily traffic of about 1,138 vehicles.

Mr. Lam Van Tan, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Can Tho city said that at the 24-hour Check Points, forces on duty include HCYU members, policemen, soldiers, doctors and nurses. Each day is divided into 4 shifts, with an average of 150 shifts/day.

Volunteer Squads at Can Tho city also participate in many other meaningful tasks, such as supporting vaccination campaign, promoting the consumption of agricultural products and shopping for citizens in blocked and quarantined areas.

Creative, fierce and professional

Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet, Head of the School-Aged Youth Department of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam Students' Union Central Committee, said that just after 1 week, 38 Volunteer Squads were established to support cities and provinces to prevent, control and adapt with COVID-19.



Volunteer Squads are on duty 24/7

The Volunteer Squads are on duty 24/24 at the Check Points. They are divided into shifts to maintain sufficient health condition while still ensure the workload. Ca Mau, Ninh Thuan and Bac Lieu have 3 shifts/day; Da Nang, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai have 2 shifts/day…

Volunteer Squads actively prepare tents, food, drinks, medical masks, gloves, quick test equipment, disinfecting water, car spray... to ensure the health of volunteers.

The Squad focused on performing key tasks such as: informing traffic situation at the station; supporting functional forces to coordinate traffic and inspect goods; assisting the medical force in obtaining medical information, entering data, taking testing samples for drivers, measuring body temperature;...


Leaders of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Can Tho province visits, encourages and gives gifts to the Volunteer Squads

Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet said that after 1 week of deployment, the Volunteer Squads successfully contributed to the smooth circulation of goods and vehicles. 

In addition, the Voice Of Viet Nam (VOV) has deployed its Traffic Information Channel to provide timely and useful information for long-haul drivers, in order to maximize traffic separation and reduce congestion.

Up to now, the School-Aged Youth Department and the Department for Unify and Mobilize Youth of the HCYU Central Committee have mobilized substantial amount of resources to support Traffic Check Points. The resources include: 120,000 medical masks; 265 barrels of mineral water; 1,000 quick test kits; 2,000 protective gears; 40 servings of vitamins and minerals, with a total value of more than 1 billion VND.

In addition, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee guarantees to provide insurance packages to member of Volunteer Squads. Each insurance package has a maximum benefit of 50 million VND.


Mr. Bui Quang Huy, Permanent Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee  acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts and creativity of HCYU at 19 provinces in deploying Volunteer Squads.
