Launching the programme "One million trees – For a green Vietnam”

In response to the Government's programme on planting 1 million trees and realizing the target of growing 30 million new trees in accordance with the Resolution of the 11th National Youth Union Congress, the HCYU Central Committee in cooperation with Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage Co., Ltd organized and launched the program One million trees – For a green Vietnam.”

Mr. Bui Quang Huy, Alternative Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Secretary of the HCYU Central Committee, President of the Viet Nam National Union of Students, stated during the press conference: The Secretariat of the HCYU Central Committee set the desires that this meaningful programme will not only initiate joint endeavors of the Vietnamese youth towards the restoration of watershed forestry; but also disseminate, raise awareness and responsibility of union members and youth about the roles, the significance of green trees and forests, in addition to the urgency of forestry plantation, protection, and the conservation of natural resources such as land, water, air, etc.

Mr. Huy also urged the union at all levels to actively propagate the meaning and messages of the programme, while simultaneously mobilizing union members and the young to register for “Green Commitment” and implement “Green Actions”; involve in and spread photo contest “One million green trees”, as well as continue to effectively perform the tasks of planting and caring for green trees in their locality.

Mr. Jahanzeb Khan – The General Director of Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage Co., Ltd stated that: “Given the Suntory Group's mission of “Returning twice of the natural water quantity we consumed through afforestation”, Suntory Group has planted 12,000 hectares of forest in 15 local regions in Japan between 2003 and 2020. It is also of great honor for the Group to collaborate in tandem with the HCYU Central Committee on the implementation of “One million trees – For a green Vietnam.”

By 2021, the programme aims to plant 20,000 new trees in watershed forests (about 20 hectares) in Quang Nam and Quang Ngai, as well as organize the following supplementary activities:


“Green Commitment” Campaign: The Organizing Committee has started the “Green Commitment” campaign on the website in an attempt to engage union members and the youth in implementing “Green Actions.”

For participation, the union members and youth can sign up by visiting the website, clicking the button “SIGN UP FOR GREEN COMMITMENT” to register for the commitment and take the “Green actions.”

The first 10,000 “Green Actions” will be correlated to 10,000 green trees planted and taken care of by the Organizing Committee throughout the first year.

Photo contest “One million trees”: Each participant uploads photos on the Contest section of the website, demonstrating activities to safeguard the environment and revitalize the landscape.

Organizing visits to the watershed forestry: Along with the afforestation, the Organizing Committee will provide activities that allow participants to explore, experience, and learn about the watershed forest ecosystem.

Organizing the “One million trees – For a green Vietnam” Marathon: Organizing a half marathon to raise awareness about the program's magnitude and to continue mobilizing organizations, businesses and individuals to participate in the programme.
