Online meeting with Vietnamese Union of Students and Viet Nam Youth Association abroad

Web.HCYU.23/3/2020. On March 22nd, the Vietnam Youth Federation, together with the Viet Nam National Union of Student held an online meeting with Vietnamese Youth Unions in foreign countries.

Mr Bui Quang Huy - Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU), Chairman of the Viet Nam National Union of Student; Mr Nguyen Tuong Lam - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Youth Federation; Mr Bui Van Linh - Head of Department of Politics Education and Student Affairs - Ministry of Education and Training hold a co-chair conference.

At the meeting, the delegates discussed activities of Vietnamese students abroad; discussed solutions or difficulties in organizing overseas Students' Union and Youth Union. Furthermore, it is significant to listen to their thoughts in the situation of COVID-19 epidemic.

Initiatively prevent Covid-19

According to Phan Dang Thuy Duong - Chairman of the Viet Nam Union of Student in Netherland, The Netherlands is one of the countries heavily affected by the epidemic as the Vietnam Union of Student in this country, in collaboration with the Vietnamese Embassy promptly informed the disease and switched offline activities to online. Moreover, the Government also provide a hotline for international students to handle the situation if they detect symptoms of disease.

Meanwhile, the Viet Nam Student- Youth Association in the Czech Republic has carried out many practical activities to support international students in preventing and fighting diseases with the message: "Stay at home when the country needs ". 

“The Association also cooperates with scientists to make antibacterial hand sanitizer and provides free masks. They also called for donations from international students and overseas Vietnamese to buy more than 40,000 medical masks, 10,000 pairs of gloves and 137 anti-epidemic suits for doctors in Binh Xuyen, Vinh Phuc.” - Mrs Nguyen Thi Dieu Linh, Chairman of the Viet Nam National Union of Students in the Czech Republic informed.

Many activities to promote the country's image

Along with the anti-epidemic activities of Covid -19, the Vietnam Union of Student in France also organized many volunteer activities towards the homeland. They have organized an online contest on sovereignty over oceans and islands called "Understand the East Sea", in collaboration with the Vietnamese in France Association to initiate 2 projects: building a bread factory for street children " Les Petites Roses ”in Ho Chi Minh City; set up an Education Center for Agent Orange Victims and Disabled Children in Huong Son, Ha Tinh. Also, they have coordinated with the French Educational Organization to successfully organize the “French Abroad Study Forum” in 4 provinces and cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Hue.

Culinary and cultural festivals such as "LSE Show", "Warwick Show", "Bath Show", "Vietnamese Culture Day" organized by Associations under the Vietnam Union of Students in the UK in the following forms: fashion shows, plays and dance music ... is the opportunity for Vietnamese students studying in the UK to promote Vietnam's image to the international community.

The Vietnam Union of Student in Singapore and Netherlands also implemented many other acitivities, in order to promote the Viet Nam’s image and support Vietnamese children.

Students and young people need to be calm, stay in touch and follow recommendations of authorities

Nguyen Viet Anh, Chairman of the Viet Nam Union of Student in Germany, said that due to the effects of Covid -19 epidemic, the activities of students and young people were postponed and canceled. The Union in Germany has prepared the "European Student Camp", scheduled to be held from August 21 to 23, 2020. However, due to the outbreak of the Covid -19 epidemic, many states in Germany were closed. "Therefore, we are incapable of organizing the camp, although we are determined to do it to celebrate the 45th anniversary of establishing Vietnam - Germany relations. We would like to move the camp to 2021," Viet Anh said.

Also at the meeting, the Chairwoman of the Vietnam Union of Students in the Czech Republic said the current situation of the disease in the Czech Republic was relatively stable. Therefore, Ms. Dieu Linh proposed hosting the Festival in Czech instead of in Germany.

Talking about the 6th Viet Nam Students- Youth Festival Camp in Europe, Mr. Bui Quang Huy informed that because of the epidemic, the preparations for the Festival in Germany will not be implemented. "The general spirit is to agree that the Vietnam Union of Students in the Czech Republic will be the host. If it is safe in July, it will be organized, otherwise it will not be implemented but moved to 2021. No matter where it is organized, the common view is to put safety first, "Mr. Bui Quang Huy emphasized.

Mr. Bui Quang Huy assessed that in the recent time, the Vietnam Union of Students in many countries have made various important contents with remarkable new features, showing their gratitude, patriotism, attracting a lot of youth members and students to participate.

During the Covid -19 outbreak, Mr. Bui Quang Huy asked students and young people to be calm, stay in touch and follow the authorities’ recommendations.
