Joining hands for a no trash environment – Spreading “Green” consciousness

In the morning of May 5, at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square (Hanoi), the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, VTV24 News Center, PSC Media Joint Stock Company, National Volunteer Center jointly organized the program "Day of Kindness" with the topic "Kindness for a no trash environment".

           Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Luong, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization;  Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Van, Member of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Vice President of Vietnam Youth Federation;  representative leaders of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and invited guests;  together with nearly 2,000 youth unionists, children, and people in Hanoi attended the program.

The "Day of Kindness" event was built into an annual Offline activity. This activity aims at good humanistic values ​​with the participation of thousands of volunteers across all regions of the country to join hands to help those in difficult circumstances, participate in small jobs or great but with the goal of bringing joy and happiness to everyone and towards good and positive values ​​for society.

In 2019, with the topic "Kindness for a no trash environment",  Ho Chi Minh Youth Union has shown a meaningful and practical activity in an effort to join hands to protect the environment, inspire and spread to union members, children, people and the whole society on raising awareness in environmental protection, minimizing the discharge of indiscriminate domestic waste, collecting garbage in "hot spots", protecting environmental landscapes, forming a habit of reusing products or choosing environmentally friendly products.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Luong, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union stated that the effect of environmental pollution on our daily life has been happening increasingly severe. As consequences, the environmental pollution and climate change have led to results such as : floods, natural disasters, and storms ... which have alarmed the whole society.

“Recently, the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and Central Committee of Vietnam Youth Federation have cooperated with all levels of sectors to organize several activities and movements to raise the awareness of the Youth Union members, to promote the spirit of vanguard in protecting the environment and coping with climate change conjointly.There are many models, methods and programs making an high effect and an good impression on the society which attract to a large amount of youths such as: Green Sunday, For a green Vietnam, Clean the sea….and models in the provinces and cities with the participation of Youth Union members” Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Nguyen Ngoc Luong said.

Through the program, Secretary of the Union Nguyen Ngoc Luong invited all members, youth and the community to join hands for a better environment with practical actions every day, from the simplest things like not throwing garbage, sorting waste, limiting the use of plastic bags and one-time plastic products, enhancing the use of products that are friendly to environment, dealing with pressing issues related to local environment… Being kind to the environment is being kind to yourself, being kind to society and being kind to the next generation.  "Kindness to the environment" is not only a one-day event; it will be a daily work and become our living and behavioral habit anytime, anywhere ".

At the Program, young people had the chance to enjoy the show and were inspired by special journeys of special people in environmental protection activities. Those “special people” include photographer Nguyen Viet Hung with the journey of 3,000 km of coastline to take photos of "garbage hunting", Mrs. Bui Thu Thuy with the nickname "Thuy Rac" - a woman with a bicycle travelling along the country to pick up trash, encourage a large number of youngsters and local people to join her movement;  Ms Bui Thi Bich Hoan with the nickname "Selena Le", founder of No Waste Vietnam Program - with drastic actions to reduce plastic waste and protect living environment in Vietnam.

As a young volunteer participating in the event "Day of Kindness", Thu Nga - a student of the Banking Academy - shared her thought: “Day of Kindness” is a very meaningful activity, helping spread our love to the environment to everyone. Moreover, thanks to this program, people can realize the importance of the environment and taking practical actions to protect the environment ".
