Deploy solutions to prevent school violence

On April 9th, the Ministry of Education and Training and Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union had a meeting to discuss on preventive and curing solutions for the issues of school violence, accidents and injuries of children. Among these, some solutions would have been implemented at early stage to prevent school violence.

The meeting was co-hosted by Ms. Nguyen Thi Nghia - Deputy Minister of Ministry of Education and Training and Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Luong - Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Chairman of the Central Council of Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organisation.

At the meeting, delegates from both units together discussed the causes and raised several solutions both short and long-term to build a better, safer and friendlier educational environment for pupils and young children in general, especially under the perspectives of education sector and under the lens of social, political organisations.

Following that, in the near future, the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union will organise a number of projects and activities such as enhancing and educating laws and regulations, ethics, lifestyle, behaviour culture, rights and responsibilities of children and children protection; to build propaganda tools and use social media platforms to promote both on and offline; reinforce psychological counselling, social work at school; to organise conferences, forums, training workshops for teachers, local Young Pioneer's advisor and students on preventive methods, school violence; to draft cooperative procedures identifying, confirming, assisting and solving all the cases that related to children violence and children assaulting and harassment.

A media campaign targeted the whole country on preventing violence, accidents and injuries of children alongside school violence will be co-organised by both agencies in order to showcase the effort and determination to absolutely erase school violence. Two agencies will co-ordinate and give instruction for schools, Young Pioneer's cell and Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organisation at local level to conduct Monday school assembly with the topic on "Creating beautiful friendship - Say No to school violence"

Mr Nguyen Ngoc Luong - Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and Chairman of the Central Council of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organisation stated that we would soon provide students with knowledge and social skills on preventing school violence, avoiding accidents and what to do when there's injury. We will inform and teach children on what is right and wrong to help them identify threats surrounding them.

On the issues of promoting school violence prevention, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Luong said the media campaign would start in late April and early May to raise awareness of the society on school violence and harassment. The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union would lead youth unions at different levels to focus on building propaganda and media tools in the forms of video clip, info-graphic, etc. on social media platforms and send them to schools.

At the end of the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Nghia has stated that in order to prevent school violence, we need to build a safer, better and friendlier educational environment, in which behaviours between people to people, humans to humans need to be based on mutual respect, humane, honesty and responsibilities.

This April, the Ministry of Education and Training will publish regulations and behaviour codes in educational environment and institutions requiring these institutions to conduct behaviour codes and requires all schools to invest time and effort into preventive solutions of school violence.
