A Special bus: Youth’s journey towards gender equality

Web.HCYU.10/3/2016. A special bus called “Youth’s journey towards gender equality” hosted by Vietnam Volunteer Centre cooperating with the United Nations Entity about gender equality and the Empowerment of Women (UNWomen), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on 6th of March in Vietnam.

This is a special bus called “Youth’s journey towards gender equality” hosted by Vietnam Volunteer Centre cooperating with the United Nations Entity about gender equality and the Empowerment of Women (UNWomen), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on 6th of March in Vietnam.

This is a very meaningful activity executed by Vietnam Volunteer Centre, in order to welcome Month of Youth and celebrate 85 years of establishment of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26th, 1931 – March 26th, 2016).

The participants are the Canadian Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador David Devine; UN Women Country Representative in Viet Nam Shoko Ishikawa; Senior Advisor for the UNDP Jean Muro; Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union  and President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Federation Mr.Nguyen Phi Long; and Director of Vietnam Volunteer Centre (VVC) Mr. Vu Minh Ly; together with 20 students of 10 universities around Hanoi.

This is a global campaign for gender equality launched by UN Women in order to mobilize the participant of men and boys who are change makers to help achieve gender equality and the right of women.

“The message I want to send you young girls as well as Vietnamese women is that I wish you could do what you desire, you could become leaders, work in any professional areas such as business or science and technology.

The Ambassador David Devine got surprised because there are up 2 days for women in Vietnam 8th of March and 20th of October so that Vietnamese men honour them.

If the other countries in the world pretext that they have men playing roles as leaders, they cannot represent the whole society when there is lack of women.

Ms. Shoko Ishikawa - UN Women Country Representative in Vietnam said that we really need to change our old conception, behaviors that have always been assigned to men and women, so as to create motives for both genders to achieve their goals and dreams without too many barriers.

On the bus with theme “Youth’s journey towards gender equality”, we hope that young people could understand the importance of the young generation in this gender equality campaign. In a longer route, we are still steadfast in the aim of breaking gender stereotypes and promote gender equality.

Vietnam is appreciated by the United Nations in implementing millennium goals of the UN, especially gender equality. Affirming the essential role of the young people in the process of gender equality promotion, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union – Mr. Nguyen Phi Long emphasized: “To achieve gender equality, we young people need to change out awareness, behaviours expressed in daily life.”
Vietnam is appreciated by the United Nations in implementing millennium goals of the UN, especially gender equality. In the afternoon, the bus took Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union  and President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Federation; the Canadian Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador; the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Belgium in Vietnam – Ms Jehanne Roccas; Representatives from the United Nations and students come to join the exhibition of cartoons and comics work about gender equality in Vietnamese Women’s Museum.
