The 9th National Congress of VNUS

Web.HCYU. 31/12/2013. On the afternoon of December 29, in Hanoi capital, the momentous event and great festival of Vietnamese students - 9th National Congress of Vietnam National Union Of Students (VNUS) officially closed after three days of intense work (December, 27-29, 2013).

At the Congress, Mr. Le Quoc Phong, Secretary of HCYU Central Committee-cum-Vice President of the 8th Central VNUS has been elected as President of 9th VNUS.

Standing by "Vietnamese students strive to be studious - creative – voluntary – integrated” motto , the Congress unanimously adopted the report of the Central Committee of the 8th VNUS after over 2 hard-working days  with the following contents:

First, Congress identified three objectives in 2013 - 2018 tenure. The first one is to build new-student generation who have lofty ideals, high morality and healthy lifestyle while always leading in learning and scientific research. The second objective is to develop the characteristics of students and fulfill the aims of innovating comprehensively and radically education and training. The last one is to build strong and adaptable VNUS which is capable of mobilizing and uniting increasing Vietnamese students at home and abroad to strive for the cause of national construction and defense.

Second, Congress has identified four directions in 2013 - 2018 tenure. The first direction is to foster awareness, political bravery, patriotism, revolutionary ideals and morality and a healthy lifestyle among students. The second point is to promote activities to create an environment for students to practice and strive to achieve "Student with 5 good points" award. Thirdly, student-mobilization models and methods are diversified while activities quality and efficiency are innovated and improved in order to meet the legitimate demands of students. The last point is to continue improving the member quality while developing local units of VNUS.

Third, Congress identified several basic criteria in 2013 - 2018 tenure, stated as follows. 100% Student Associations (SAs) at all levels undertake student tasks while 100% SA at school level will organize following annual activities: student support and counseling service, models construction to offer the social skills and at least one scientific activity for students. 100% SA at school level organize summery and regular voluntary campaign while each SA member is required to volunteer at least 05 days every term.

Fourth, Congress launched the nationwide student movement entitled “Student with 5 good points” and "Establish a strong VNUS” program.

Fifth, Congress adopted three proposals (Educating moral lifestyle, Training revolutionary and traditional ideals for students; Developing Vietnam Student Development Fund; valedictorian apartment) and two programs in the tenure (Student Counseling and Support, Skills training for AS members at all levels).

Also, the 9th Central Committee and Central Inspection Committee of VNUS have been elected with 99 members and 15 members respectively.

Besides, 31 members have been elected into Secretariat while key positions of the 9th Central VNUS have been filled.  Mr. Le Quoc Phong, Secretary of HCYU Committee-cum-Vice President of the 8th VNUS has been appointed as the President of the 9th VNUS.

National Congress of the 9th VNUS came to a successful end. The Congress called for all Vietnamese students to uphold the spirit "Vietnamese students strive to be studious - creative – voluntary – integrated" to follow the honorable tradition which previous generations painstakingly nurtured while grasping opportunities while striving to redress all constraints and challenges.

3. Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga - Member of Standing Committee of HCYU-cum-Secretary of the HCYU of Hanoi capital-cum-President of Hanoi’s Students Association

4. Mr. Nguyen Ba Canh - Member of Standing Committee of HCYU-cum-Secretary of HCYU of Da Nang-cum-President of Da nang’s Students Association.

5. Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong - Member of HCYU Central Committee-cum-Deputy Permanent Secretary of HCYU of HCMC-cum-President of HCMC’s Students Association.
