Vietnamese student singing contest opens at Irkutsk, Russia
Web.HCYU.07/03/2013 - A singing contest named “Irk – the destination” was organized for Vietnamese students in Irkutsk city of Russia on 3 March 2013. This is one of the biggest events to celebrate the International Women Day (8/3) and 82th Anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (26/3/1931 – 26/3/2013).

This year’s singing contest attracts 29 candidates from branches of the youth unions, students and researchers living in Irkutsk, Russia.
The candidates have to pass three rounds judged by a Committee of five who are experienced and reputable in the youth activities of the city.
In the first round, candidates sing the song of choice. The Committee then selects 14 singers with the highest scores to qualify for the second round.
In the second round, the student singers have to go through the solo and duo parts of singing. In the first part, each candidate sings his or her favorite song, then the Committee pairs them up for duo singings. The seven excellent singers will be retained for the final.

Apart from the main prizes presented by the Committee (1st, 2nd and 3rd), Those performed in the second round are recorded and posted on the internet for the public viewers to vote for the prize f “singer of most favored”.
The first round of the singing contest on 3 March was attended and supported by a large number of students and researches all over the city. According to a member of the judges, this year contest shows rich and balanced quality of the candidates.
The Vietnamese songs on love for the country and youth are the most popular. Besides, several candidates choose to sing Russian or English songs which make the contest rich in content.
After three hours of work, the Committee shortlisted 14 singers qualified into the next round. The final round of the contest takes place on 24 March 2013, along with a performance to celebrate the 82th Anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
