Cyberspace and the mission to protect the cultural and ideological frontiers of youth

On the morning of May 11th, the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU), in collaboration with the Publicity and Education Commission under Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) Central Committee, the National Assembly's Committee for Culture and Education, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Vietnam Television and the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations organize the Symposium "Cyberspace and the mission to protect the cultural and ideological frontiers of youth"

The symposium aimed to concretize the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress in the field of culture; Strategy on cultural development of Viet Nam to 2030; Directing speech by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and leaders of the Party and State at the National Cultural Conference in November 2021.

The role of the youth in preserving, revitalizing and developing Vietnamese culture

At the opening speech, H.E. Dang Xuan Phuong, Vice Chairman of National Assembly Committee on Culture and Education said: The young generation is the beneficiary of cultural products, at the same time, is the
most potential subject with the greatest creative ability to create transnational cultural products imbued with national identity. The symposium is organized to contribute to affirmingthe role of the youth in preserving and promoting Vietnamese culture.

According to Prof. Dr. Hoang Chi Bao, Former Member of the Central Council of Theoretical Studies, Senior Expert at the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Culture is likened to the identity of the nation so that the nation exists in the human world with the crystallization of quintessential values, traditions and identity of their nation.

Prof. Dr. Hoang Chi Bao stated, facing the strong impact of the fourth Industrial Revolution on all areas of life today, in the age of information and digital society transformation, it is necessary to pay special attention to the soft power of culture. In addition, improving the capacity and creativity of people, especially the young generation to protect the cultural frontier with the endogenous strength of Vietnamese culture and people.

The HCYU preserves and protects the border of cultural ideology in the context of digital transformation

Speaking at the Symposium, H.E. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Publicity and Education Commission under CPV, said that over the past time, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and Vietnamese youth have been organizing many campaigns, movements and activities, which are very specific to contribute to preserving and promoting national cultural identity, protecting the border of cultural thought in the context of digital transformation.

However, it should be frankly acknowledged that, in the context of the 4th industrial revolution, with the strong development of science and technology, of digital transformation, we are facing many challenges in protecting the environment. cultural ideological frontier. That is: the penetration of transnational cultural products besides the positive points, there are also challenges when the values are not suitable for Vietnamese culture, there are even "toxic" products, which are badly affecting people, especially the young generation.

He asked that the HCYU at all levels, all branches and youth nationwide continue to persevere and innovate methods of research and study, thoroughly grasp and propagate the guidelines and policies of the Party and State in the field of culture. In addition, the current context of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution, which is developing very strongly, requires the Youth Union to create environment to encourage, promote, and spark creativity among young people, consider this as a very important factor to preserve and develop culture. At the same time, promoting digital transformation, applying modern technology in cultural development, education, tourism, improving the quality of journalism, publishing, information, communication, social networking... Promoting the role of reputable people, especially artists, in orienting good values for the young generation.

Cyberspace orients personality and cultural lifestyle for young people

Speaking at the conclusion of the symposium, Mr. Bui Quang Huy - Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Secretary of the HCYUCC said that, the Symposium made comments on the importance of culture; the current status of cultural work in our country; The impact and influence of cyberspace on the mission of protecting cultural and ideological frontier and on the development and orientation of personality and cultural lifestyle for young people.

The Symposium discussed and emphasized the importance of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and Vietnamese youth in contributing to protecting the ideological and cultural frontiers from afar: young people are a great social force, playing an important role in the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country, international integration and promotion of the advanced and imbued with national identity Vietnamese culture. 

Accordingly, The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union needs to strengthen the widespreading of traditional cultural values, educate knowledge about national culture in society, starting from children; through experiential educational activities in school, Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization activities, coordination between family, school and society.

HCYU at all levels need to do a good job of proactively monitoring and promptly capturing, orienting and handling deviant expressions in children's participation in creativity and cultural enjoyment.

Timely take measures and ways to resolutely fight against counter-cultural, non-cultural and "cultural invasion" phenomena. At the same time, organize activities to foster, propagate and educate to raise awareness in the the fight to prevent and be immune to counter plots of hostile forces in the field of cultural ideology to young people.

H.E. Bui Quang Huy proposed the provincial, municipal unions and affiliated HCYU study and include these contents and solutions in the working program and draft documents of the congress to establish specific tasks for implementation in the coming time. At the same time, the Secretariat of the Central Youth Union will develop a report on the results of the Symposium, including proposals and recommendations to the Party, the National Assembly, the Government and relevant agencies to contribute to the effective implementation of the Vietnamese cultural development strategy in the coming time.
