Vietnamese students in Spain enhance youth activities’ quality, contributing to promoting country’s image

From June 25-26, 2019, the delegation of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the National Committee on Youth of Vietnam led by Mr. Le Quoc Phong, the Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Chairman of the National Committee on Youth of Vietnam paid a working visit to Spain.

In the framework of the trip, the delegation visited and worked at the Vietnamese Embassy in Spain, met Vietnamese students studying in Spain, visited and worked with the Spain Communist Party; the Youth Work Institute, which belongs to the Spain Ministry of Health, Consumers and Social Welfare, as well as the Start-up center AREA 31.

At the meeting with the Vietnamese Embassy in Spain, Mr. Ngo Tien Dung, the Vietnam Ambassador to Spain, received the delegation and exchanged views on the cooperation between Vietnam and Spain. He informed that there are about 2,000 Vietnamese people living, studying and working in Spain. Most Vietnamese people actively participating in activities of the Vietnamese community in Spain. 

At the meeting with Vietnamese students studying in Spain, the delegation listened to student representatives reporting on the situation of Vietnamese students here. There are about 600 Vietnamese students studying in Spain, mainly in Madrid capital and some big cities. Vietnamese students are active in learning and always try to organize activities for the community. However, they also face many difficulties such as thick study time, limited operational funding, lack of equipment and especially regular change of key personnel, resulting from the fact when students finish their study program.

During the meeting, the Ambassador proposed the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Vietnam National Union of Students to support the establishment of the Vietnam Student Union in Austria to create a better basis to promote the activities of Vietnamese students in Austria.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Le Quoc Phong appreciated the efforts of the Vietnamese student community in Spain. Mr. Le Quoc Phong agreed with the establishment of the Vietnam Student Union in Austria. At the same time, he asked the Vietnamese student community in Austria to continue to unite, with the guidance of the Central Committee, the Vietnam National Union of Students and the Embassy, contributing to improving the quality of youth activities, contributing to promoting the image of the country, culture and people of Vietnam in Austria.

In the framework of the working program, the delegation visited and worked with the Spanish Communist Party. Receiving the delegation at the Party headquarters, Mr. Enrique Santiango, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Spain and some members of the Party informed the delegation about the Spanish political situation, about the participation of the Spanish Communist Party in political life. Mr. Enrique Santiango reiterated the traditional relationship and the support of the Spanish Communist Party to the Communist Party of Vietnam and the people of Vietnam both during the war and in the process of national construction. In addition, representatives of the Spanish Communist Youth Union also introduced the outstanding movements and expressed their desire to continue strengthening cooperation with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union both in bilateral and multilateral activities, especially in the World Federation of Democratic Youth.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Le Quoc Phong expressed his delight to the support of the Spanish Communist Party for the people of Vietnam during the past time. He expressed his belief that the Spanish Communist Party, with the right development pathway, will increasingly play an important role in Spanish political life. He informed the situation of Vietnamese youth, as well as outstanding movements and programs of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union during the 2017-2022 term. He also agreed that the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Spanish Communist Youth Union should continue promoting cooperation activities in the coming time.


Also in this business trip, in the morning of July 26, the delegation had a meeting with leaders of the Institute of Youth Affairs, which belongs to the Ministry of Health, Consumers and Social Welfare in Spain. Receiving the delegation, Ms. Ruth Carrasco Ruiz, Director of the Institute informed the current situation of Spanish youth, policies of the Spanish government for the youth. Ms. Ruth Carrasco Ruiz also talked about Spanish youth development strategy and some difficulties in implementing this strategy.

At the meeting, Mr. Le Quoc Phong exchanged views on the situation of Vietnamese youth, as well as policies of the Party and State of Vietnam for young people. He said that the implementation of policies and programs for young people in Vietnam and Spain has many similarities like focusing on important areas such as education, employment, skill development for young people, so both sides can share and learn from each other in this important work.

During the working session at the AREA 31 Start-up Support Centre, Mr. Juan José Güemes, Director of the Center shared with the delegation about the process of formation, development, the structure and activities of the Center. For more details, the AREA 31 Start-up Support Center is one of the prestigious units of Spain in guiding students to form ideas, build a startup project, to invite start-up experts and entrepreneurs to come to give advice to student start-up projects. Besides, the Center regularly organizes entrepreneurship workshops for young people in many countries around the world. Mr. Juan José Güemes illustrated his plan to organize some start-up support activities in Vietnam in the coming time.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Le Quoc Phong shared about the youth entrepreneurship movement in Vietnam, about programs and activities to support young people to start a business of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and youth organizations in Vietnam.

He expressed that institutions like the Youth Support Center are necessary to create environment, which helps provide knowledge, finance and necessary advice for young people to have more chances to succeed in start-up process. He agreed with the suggestion of the AREA 31 Center in organizing startup programs in Vietnam and the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union is ready to coordinate with appropriate content.

By the end of the working program in Spain, the delegation continued to work in Sweden and Austria from June 28 to July 4, 2019.
