151 Scholarships awarded for university students

HCYU.16/09/2014. 151 new students awarded scholarships were students who had outstanding learning results from 13 northern provinces, including Thai Binh, Hanoi, Nam Dinh, Ha Nam, Hung Yen, Vinh Phuc, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Bac Ninh, Ninh Binh, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh, Phu Tho.

Emotional moments of the event as freshman Nguyen Thi Thuy (Phu Tho) shared her the family situation and the efforts to overcome difficulties in life. These students are generally disadvantaged. Many are orphans, have to work to earn for living and studying.

Difficulties did not deter their willingness to learn, thus the door to universities and colleges have opened up before them. The scholarships worth only 5 million VND/scholarship but for many students who live in special circumstances, this is a meaningful and timely present to help them go for their dreams.

Nguyen Thi Thuy, new student of Hung Vuong University - Phu Tho, lost her mother since childhood. Her dad walked away from his children since she was 3 years old so "I wouldn’t remember my father's face even if I saw him." Invited to interact at the scholarship award ceremony, Thuy kept crying. She said it was her first time coming to Hanoi, sitting on a solemn stage with the attention and love by many people, it just made her nervous yet crestfallen. Living alone in the house with only the spirit of her late mother, Thuy not only to overcome the lack of material but also have to overcome moments of weakness, wanting to end her life because of loneliness. But she have met good friends and got up, continued to live and study.

Sharing about this scholarship program, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Mau Banh noted that this was a humanities program, helped the freshmen at the most important moment in their lives. He hoped with the "relay" in both kind and encouragement from the heart, the new students would stride on the path of learning and success.

2014 is the 12th year scholarship "Relay to school" comes to new students that overcome difficulties and study well.

Many freshmen in the previous years that received a scholarship from Tuoi Tre Newspaper have now graduated from universities, becoming engineers, doctors, and teachers...

There are those who have returned to help the new freshmen in accordance with the extended journey and spread the sharing of the hearts.

In 12 years, "Relay to school" has awarded 11,000 scholarships for freshmen, at a cost of almost 50 billion VND. Only in 2014, "Relay to school" has awarded 1,800 scholarships at a total cost of 9 billion VND.
