On this occasion, all the former Con Dao prisoners agreed that the honour award given by the Communist Party and the State to the revolutionist collectives in Con Dao prison should be firstly deserved by the indomitable soldiers who bravely sacrificed themselves and permanently stayed at Hang Duong Cemetery, Con Dao due to the violence and the wicked tortures of the enemies. All the former prisoners wanted to have a chance to gather at this fierce battle to share happiness with those who were alive, to visit the people who passed away, and visit the place where they had fought and devoted their youth for the national independence.

At the ceremony, the delegates gathered to recall traditional indomitability, bravery, high consistency of the revolutionists in Con Dao prison. In the history of 113-year existence, in Con Dao Prison - "the hell on earth", there were nearly 20,000 revolutionists and patriots lying down.

Mr. Trinh Van Lau suggested former Con Dao political prisoners should do more specific and practical things to preserve and promote the values traded by the sacrifice of many generations, to enrich the history of revolutionary struggle of our people and to pass the flame of enthusiasm for independence & freedom to the young generation today and tomorrow.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Phan Van Mai said: “All Vietnamese young people know that the peaceful moments we have today and the results we benefit come from an intensive foundation which is independence - peace that our previous generations had to exchange by sweat and blood.”

"Each wall, floor, every inch of land, tree, and stone on the island has become the relic witnessing the brutal crimes of colonialism, imperialism and the puppet. Servitude, humiliation, hunger, diseases, and the despicable tricks to eliminate personality, remove human dignity, and confine human in desperate circumstances; however, living like dying could not conquer the spirit and will of the consistent revolutionists. Right in "that hell on earth", the mettle of the patriots, and the enduring fighting spirit of the communist soldiers had shown the bravery, the will and the wisdom of the Vietnam revolution,” Mr. Phan Van Mai said.

On behalf of the Vietnamese youth, Mr. Phan Van Mai expressed his pleasure to participate in the ceremony to receive the title “Hero of People's Armed Forces” given by the Communist Party and the State to the revolutionist collectives in Con Dao prison during the war against America on the occasion of 66-year anniversary of Invalid and Martyr Day.
