Promote the role of ASEAN youth in sustainable development and regional connectivity

Web.HCYU.22/07/2019. On July 19, the 11th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth (AMMY) with the theme "The role of ASEAN youth in sustainable development and regional connectivity" and the 7th ASEAN + 3 Ministerial Meeting on Youth(AMMY + 3) officially opened at Vientiane, Laos.

The 11th AMMY and 7 AMMY + 3 conference was hosted by the Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union for the first time from 18 to 20 July 2019, aiming to enhance the role of young people in building, integrating and connecting ASEAN Community. At the Conference, youth leaders in the region exchanged issues related to youth development and cooperation; provides solutions to promote the role of youth in the process of building the ASEAN Community and adopting the Joint Statement of the Conference.

Attending the Opening Ceremony of the Conference were Lao Deputy Prime Minister Sonsay Siphandone, Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN Kung Phoak and Youth Ministers, senior officials of 10 ASEAN countries and Japan, South Korea and China.

Speaking at the opening of the AMMY XI Conference, Lao Deputy Prime Minister Sonsay Siphandone highly appreciated the work of promoting the role of young people in the ASEAN region, because this is a valuable resource of the nation, playing an important role in most development sectors of each country and region; is the force connecting the present and the future, tightening the solidarity and friendship between countries in the region and the world. The Lao Deputy Prime Minister also proposed the main objectives for this Conference: to strengthen the implementation of plans to improve the role of young people, especially women; to prepare all aspects for ASEAN youths to seize opportunities from scientific and technological advances and the 4.0 industrial revolution and continue to promote the role of ASEAN youths in linking cooperation between countries in the region and partners to work together to maintain peace, stability and prosperity.

The Vietnamese delegation led by the Standing Secretary of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Comrade Nguyen Anh Tuan attended the Conference. Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan highly appreciated the preparation and organization of the AMMY, AMMY +3 Conference of the Central Committee of Lao Youth Union and ASEAN Secretariat.

He also appreciated that Laos chose the theme "The role of ASEAN youth in sustainable development and regional connectivity", which is a very suitable topic in the context of the world and the region, as well as stressed that Vietnam has been implementing many activities and programs for young people in line with the above topic in recent years.

In order to strengthen youth cooperation in ASEAN, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan suggested that representatives of countries continue to exchange, discuss and promote cooperation on issues such as accompanying young people in environmental protection and responding to climate change, supporting youth start-up, training skills for youth, vocational training and supporting youth job introduction. He said that 2020 is a special year for Vietnam when Vietnam will take on the role of rotating President of ASEAN. Relevant ministries, branches and units and the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union - National Committee on Youth of Vietnam are actively preparing initiatives and programs in 2020 and hope to see participation of ASEAN countries and dialogue partner countries.

In addition to the ASEAN and ASEAN + 3 Ministerial Meeting on Youth, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union - National Committee Youth of Vietnam has sent representatives to participate in many side conferences within the framework of the Ministerial Conference as Meeting of Officials to prepare for the ASEAN and ASEAN + 3 Ministerial Meeting on Youth from July 16-18, 2019, to appoint representatives of Vietnamese young entrepreneurs to attend ASEAN Youth Day, including the ASEAN Youth Award and ASEAN Youth Exhibition from July 17-19, 2019.

At the ASEAN Youth Day, Mr. Vo Quan Duy, Chairman of the Phuong Dong Group, was selected as the representative of Vietnamese youth to receive the ASEAN Youth Award in 2019.

On this trip to Laos, the Vietnam Young Entrepreneurs Association sent a delegation to visit and work with the Lao Young Entrepreneurs Association. The two sides exchanged and discussed the contents of business cooperation between the two countries in the coming time, such as exchanging delegations to work annually in the two countries, studying business cooperation, connecting trade between young entrepreneurs of the two countries, especially in neighboring provinces or sister provinces and cities. On this occasion, the Young Entrepreneurs Association of the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the period of 2019-2021 with the witness of the Leaders of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Leaders of  Lao People's Youth Union.

On the sidelines of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth, the Vietnamese delegation led by Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan had bilateral talks and working sessions with the delegation of the Lao People's Youth Union, the Chinese Communist Youth Union and the representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth of Singapore. Through side-by-side working sessions, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union - National Committee on Youth of Vietnam and Youth Organizations of Laos, Singapore and China agreed to expand some fields and subjects, as well as to enhance the depth of youth cooperation activities in the coming time, contributing to the development of good relations between Vietnam and other countries.
