Workshop on youth leadership for community development

Web.HCYU.24/6/2013. From 19-21/06/2013, training workshop themed "Young leadership for community development" co-organized by the Youth International Development Cooperation Center (CYDECO) and the British Council Vietnam, in the city of Bac Ninh.

This is the first workshop implemented in Vietnam in a series of training activities to develop innovative youth leaders for social development and innovative community. The workshop gathers about sixty youth representatives at various levels workers of five northern midland provinces of Bac Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Bac Giang, Phu Tho, Quang Ninh.

In three days from 19-21/6/2013, under instructions of professional facilitators, the participants joined and discussed new tools and approaches in connecting local youth to build community model, solving social problems such as youth unemployment, environment protection and help people who are in need.

 The workshop introduced the general visions, community mapping and related activities to encourage participants to understand about social Innovation and active citizens. With the idea of “globally connected- locally engaged”, the young people are engaging in innovative ways. They share ideas, support each other, and together broaden the knowledge.

At the opening ceremony, Pham Phuong Chi, Member of the Standing Committee, Head of the International Department of the HCYU, Director General of CYDECO stressed "In the context of international integration, which is affecting every the aspects of life and spirit of young people, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union is trying to explore relevant solutions, and build appropriate programs and activities to enhance skills of international integration as well as community development for youth. Through this training workshop, the youth leaders will be exposed to new knowledge, methods of thinking, creative approaches to actively and effectively contribute to the development of their local communities".

This workshop is also on the occasion of celebrating 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the United Kingdom and 20 years presence of British Council in Vietnam, said Ian Robinson, Acting Director of British Council Vietnam.  "Through this project, we hope to help the youth of Vietnam build a network of enthusiastic young people working for community. With the knowledge and creativity, youth will join hands to solve the problems of the local communities...”
